Lanternlights

Typically, Lanternlights operate in pairs – one saurian and one human – organized under a larger unit based on location. Waterfall City’s code is WFC, and it’s divided into 100 units, 10×10. The N-S units are numbered, and the E-W units are lettered. For instance, the Rusted Claw is in the WFC5B unit.

Lanternlight partners are accountable to their unit head, who is in turn accountable to the city consul; the identity of these consuls is known only to the elders. The consuls often live as ordinary citizens, albeit wealthy ones, and conduct Lanternlight business anonymously.

The internal laws of the Lanternlights are both strict and intricate, and breaking them can lead to anything from a slap on the wrist to a ‘disappearance.’ Ex-Lanternlights, while not exactly common, are not unheard of; they typically tell tales of incompetence or a botched job, or sometimes of having offended the wrong person.
